2003 Outstanding Alumnus Environmental Accomplishment
Monty E. Matlock is the 2003 winner of this award. Matlock currently serves as the director the Pawnee Nation Department of Environmental Conservation and Safety. He plans, evaluates and implements self-sustaining multimedia Tribal environmental programs including water pollution control, safe drinking water, solid waste management and disposal. His self described monumental accomplishment was developing and implementing the Pawnee Blue Thumb program. Pawnee Blue Thumb, as a grassroots community organization, has brought all major community leaders together to develop the Pawnee Environmental Education Center. Matlock received the Oklahoma Governor Conservation Award in 1999 for his part in the development of the Pawnee Education Center. He developed one of the foremost tribal environmental departments in Oklahoma. Because of his environmental accomplishments, Matlock serves as a role model for all ES students.
