2005 Staff Environmental Award Winner
Elaine Stebler works as a researcher in OSU’s Forestry Department. Her dedication to the environment and sustainability started early. During her senior year in high school, Elaine and a group of friends made the national and local news for their efforts during the first Earth Day, April 22nd, 1970. It was then that she first learned that a dedicated group of individuals could make a difference, and that grassroots activism could pay off. She serves as a national Sierra Club Service Trip leader and encourages participants to contribute not only through their good works but also to become activists. She especially enjoys leading family service trips where she can inspire young people and their parents to be concerned about, and active in, preserving their environment. Elaine is also active in several local environmental organizations giving presentations, serving on advisory councils, boards, committees, etc.
