Scott Byrd, an M.S. student in the Environmental Science program, researches and writes on issues of global governance, transnational social movements, international development and the environment.  His service accomplishments include being a founding member of the Stillwater Recycling Coalition and Sustainable Stillwater, helping to plan Earth Week events on the OSU Campus from 2002-2004, and creating the Eco Film Project, a film series on the OSU campus which educates the OSU community about their interdependent relationship with the Earth's ecosystems.  Scott has also served on the World Neighbors Global Education advisory board, Oklahoma Sustainability Network executive board, and has recently started an organization titled the International Network of Scholar Activists (INOSA) that will serve to network academics and activists throughout the world to work together in support of common research projects and civil society initiatives.  Scott will be attending the University of California, Irvine in the fall to pursue a Ph.D. in Sociology.

Kara Cook is a junior Political Science/English major.  She currently serves as president of ECO-OSU and helps to coordinate “Earth Day” at OSU.  As ECO-OSU president, Kara discussed the possibility of using more native plants on the OSU campus with President Schmidly and Physical Plant.  Kara has also been dedicated to recycling efforts across campus.  With the Student Government Association Recycling Committee, she helped to recycle plastic bottles as noisemakers for OSU football.  She worked on getting recycling on the Strip (Washington St) and in the residence halls.  Kara created the “OSU Book Fair” to reuse books on campus and she also helped to create “campus cast-off” which accepts donations of clothing to be reused.
