TED MILLS AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ENVIRONMENTAL TEACHING

This award is given to the Environmental Teaching Faculty member who demonstrates outstanding accomplishment in graduate teaching, instructional innovation, and student mentoring. The awardee will receive an engraved trophy and his or her name will be permanently displayed on a teaching awards plaque. If funds are available, the Environmental Science Graduate Program will allocate a monetary award in the name of the recipient to a current Environmental Science graduate student who wishes to pursue a career in environmental education. This award will be given only once to the same individual.

 

1. Eligibility: Any OSU faculty member who is registered in the Environmental Faculty Teaching Database and who is actively teaching courses that attract environmental science graduate students.

 

2.  Criteria for Selection: Innovation in environmental course design and delivery, student ratings of instruction, number of students served, and number of environmental courses delivered or developed.

a Student evaluations over the past 5 years (30%)

b.  Serving as an inspiration to students and number of students mentored (chair, advisor, GRA sponsor, etc.) (30%)

c.   Number of environmental courses delivered and developed (20%)

d.   Number of environmental courses delivered and developed for distance delivery (10%)

e  Involvement in student groups/programs (10%)

3.  Application packet must include:

a  Two letters of nomination from current or former students that describe the impact of the nominee’s environmental teaching on student success

b.   A 2-3 page statement by the nominee that describes teaching accomplishments and innovations, contributions to preparing students for environmental careers, and student mentoring philosophy and activities as related to the criteria

c  A current curriculum vita

d.   Photo (electronic version preferred)

4.  Deadline for receipt of application packet: January 15, 2008
