Reasons for receiving this award:  Jim has instituted several methods to reduce soil erosion, including no-till methods, construction of 18 miles of terraces, and installation of 11 erosion dams.  He has not used commercial fertilizer since 1997.  Working closely with the OK Department of Environmental Quality, Jim uses aerobic digesters to convert sewage sludge to pastureland fertilizer.  He also uses cedar trees around the digester to control odors from the digesting process.  His tractor runs on bio-diesel.  He recycles 3 million gallons of wastewater per year. He is also heavily involved with both the 4-H and FFA chapters in Oklahoma teaching the next generation of farmers and ranchers the importance of sustainable agriculture.
