Financial AssistanceThe University awards numerous assistantships. The terms of the appointment and the amount of the stipend vary by departments. Service is expected for assistantship appointments. Information regarding the application process should be addressed to the department in which the appointment is desired. International students interested in teaching assistantships need to take the Test of Spoken English (TSE) and achieve a score of 220 on the speak test and 5 on the TSE. The Environmental Science Graduate Program does not award assistantships so remember to talk about this point with prospective advisors. Non-Resident Tuition Waivers Non-resident graduate students who hold teaching or research assistantship appointments of one-fourth time or more may have the out-of-state portion of their tuition waived. In-State Tuition Waivers Students who are sufficiently employed as teaching or research assistants and meet enrollment requirements receive resident tuition waivers. Assistants employed 0.50 FTE receive resident tuition waiver for Fall/Spring/Summer of 6/6/3 credit hours; those employed at least 0.35FTE receive resident tuition waiver for Fall/Spring/Summer of 3/3/3 credit hours. The summer portion of the tuition waiver program begins Summer 2009.
