Welcome to the Water Planning Process!
|
We have finished with the first phase of the water planning process – the Local Input Meetings. Final reports from each of these 42 meetings (and one report containing comments received via the Web, fax, or phone) are now available on the reports link. We have also updated the searchable comment database.
We have begun preparing background documents for the next phase (regional meetings). These documents consist of the comments received so far for each region, consolidated and categorized. Thus, we are no longer able to include new comments into these background documents; however, we still welcome comments both about Oklahoma’s water resource management and our process. They will be included later. [Make online comments here.]
The regional meetings will begin in Big Cabin (Mayes County) August 7. The complete schedule and a map are available. During the regional meetings, approximately 30 participants will categorize and prioritize the comments. Categories will be prioritized in three levels: High – what must be included in the water plan, Medium – what should be included, and Low – what can be addressed at a later time. This prioritization will set the agenda for the next phase in the process – the Planning Workshops, which will be held during 2009.
The Regional Input Meetings will have a different format than the Local Input Meetings. There will be an afternoon session, beginning at 4:00 in which participants will discuss the categories and priorities. This session is open to the public; however, we will ask the public to hold their comments until the second session. During the second session the public will have the opportunity to make comments on the results of the earlier meeting. All comments will be recorded and taken into consideration when the final statewide report is written.
The background documents (mentioned above) will be sent to the participants prior to the meeting for their review and to think about how the categories should be prioritized. These documents will also be posted on this website.
We strive to keep our process and information as open and transparent as possible. To help achieve this, all reports and all comments are available on this website. We will also post a list of the 330 participants and their interests for public review and comment. This will help ensure we have all water interests represented.
Please read our Information Sheets about the public participation process or visit our Frequently Asked Questions page if you have additional questions. Also, please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments.
We encourage everyone to join our mailing list to stay informed about important changes to this website or the planning process.
We continue to be excited about working with Oklahoma citizens on the future management of their water resources!
