1.  The Sterling L. (Bud) Burks Fellowship
This Fellowship is awarded to a current Environmental Science graduate student who intends to pursue a career in environmental research. It is awarded in the name of the 2006 faculty recipient of the Sterling L. Burks Award for Outstanding Environmental Research.

1. Eligibility: Any Oklahoma State University Environmental Science graduate student with emphasis in environmental research.

2. Criteria for Selection:
Research qualifications and experience (40%)
Involvement in research professional societies (20%)
Relatedness and appropriateness of student goals with environmental research careers (20%)
Potential for success (Advisor’s letter) (20%)

3. Application Packet Must Include:

Career goal statement
Letter of nomination from the student’s advisor

2.  The Sustainability Fellowship
This Fellowship is awarded to two current Environmental Science graduate students who wish to engage in sustainability research and pursue careers that advance sustainable development. It is awarded in the name of the 2006 recipient(s) of the Green Award for Sustainability.

1. Eligibility: Any Oklahoma State University Environmental Science graduate student with emphasis in sustainability.

2. Criteria for Selection:
Qualifications and experience in sustainability research (20%)
Involvement in sustainability organizations and/or classes (20%)
Relatedness and appropriateness of student goals with sustainability careers (20%)
Potential for success (Advisor’s letter) (20%)

1.  Alaskan Science Education Manager
The Wilderness Society seeks an experienced Science Education Manager, to translate complex scientific information into outreach and education materials that are appropriate for diverse audiences and that can move a conservation agenda.  2.  NCSE Internships
 
The National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE) offers internships for students and recent graduates during the summer and the academic year. Preference is given to students or graduates of NCSE's University Affiliate institutions. 

General Requirements: 

  • Excellent communication and writing skills                             
  • Education or experience in environmental science or policy (preferably both)                             
  • Well-organized                           
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently                           
  • Basic computer skills                           
  • Curious mind and a desire to learn                              
  • Flexible                             
  • Sense of humor

Duties and Responsibilities: 
Interns will have the unique opportunity to be involved in a number of programs and projects at NCSE. Interns may assist in outreach to the academic, governmental, business, and civil society communities. Interns are encouraged to attend events and meetings in DC and on Capitol Hill. 

Responsibilities may include planning for NCSE's National Conference on Science, Policy and the Environment, working with the  Council of Environmental Deans and Directors (CEDD) or National Commission on Science for Sustainable Forestry (NCSSF), and helping with the Earth Portal.  Additionally, interns may work on web site design, web page development, electronic outreach (listserv, etc.), database management, LAN support, and web research and content evaluation.  Strong candidates will be particularly interested in working on fundraising and development issues.

Duration:

Udall Foundation

The Udall Foundation is accepting applications for the 2007 Environmental Public Policy & Conflict Resolution Dissertation Fellowship. The Udall Foundation awards two one-year fellowships of up to $24,000 to doctoral candidates whose research concerns U.S. environmental public policy and/or environmental conflict resolution and who are entering their final year of writing the dissertation. Previous fellows’ fields of study include political science; economics; government; environmental science, policy and management; ecology; environmental justice; regional planning; geography; natural resource policy; and environmental analysis and design. Interdisciplinary projects are particularly welcome. Fellows must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals or resident aliens, and their dissertation research must pertain to U.S. environmental policy.

ES Fellowships

Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship form  Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellowships are intended to support doctoral student research to culminate in a high quality dissertation.  Each fellowship is awarded for one semester, renewable for one additional semester.  Each semester award includes $5,000 salary (0.5 FTE) and a six-hour tuition waiver.  To qualify for a second semester, the student must submit a report on research progress made during the semester and the student’s research advisor must submit a letter confirming that the student has made satisfactory research progress.

Recruitment Fellowship form  These Fellowships are for new students and are to assist students with setting up their research during their tenure here at Oklahoma State University.  These Fellowships are intended to allow new environmental science graduate student to get an early start on their research.  Each fellowship is awarded for one semester, renewable for one additional semester.  Each semester award includes $5,000 salary (0.5 FTE) and a six-hour tuition waiver.  To qualify for a second semester, the student must submit a report on research progress made during the semester and the student’s research advisor must submit a letter confirming that the student has made satisfactory research progress.
